Is it too early to decorate for Christmas?

Every year, there is a debate about Christmas decorations.

Those who are really excited for Christmas would say decorations should go up in early November, but there are some people who prefer to put up theirs at the beginning of December. I think the perfect in between of these two debates is putting up Christmas decorations the weekend after Thanksgiving for many reasons.

First, Thanksgiving should have its own moment to be celebrated. Many people decorate their homes with Thanksgiving theme in November, and putting up Christmas decorations is not a good mix at all. Also, November is when the leaves start falling, so the vibe is still Fall. Even the weather is mixed up; it is warm one week, and during the next week, we are scraping snow off our windshields. Then it is warm again. By the time December comes around, the weather will be cold, and there will be no other holiday getting in the way of Christmas, so no one can be mad at people who decorate too early. Also, by the time it is December, most people will have taken down their Halloween and Thanksgiving decorations and will have their Christmas decorations up, which will get everyone excited for the holiday season.

Secondly, many people have family over for the weekend so the whole family can decorate for Christmas together. Every year, my family gathers at my aunt and uncle’s house for the holidays. We all have Thanksgiving dinner together, and the kids spend the weekend at her house to decorate for Christmas. We put up the Christmas tree and decorate the inside and outside of her house. This makes decorating fun because we all do it together. Decorating for Christmas feels like a chore when people do it all by themselves.

Although there is no right or wrong answer to when Christmas decorations should go up, it is the best to wait until after Thanksgiving. Let Thanksgiving have its own moment to be celebrated.
