Wonka worth applause

There are many similarities between Willy Wonka, such as the musical and whimsical feels it brings into the theaters.

When I was introduced to the cast of the movie, I knew it was going to be a decent movie. The cast included young star Timothee Chalamet, and some familiar faces as in Keegan Michael-Key, Hugh Grant, and Rowan Atkinson. Chalamet played an important role as Willy Wonka. Chalamet’s charisma with the other cast members and his whimsical feel brought this movie to life. It is hard to see anyone other than Johnny Depp playing the role of Willy Wonka, but Chalamet did a fantastic job.

This film did an amazing job going into depth about Willy Wonka and how he and his chocolate came to be as famous as it is. The way that the filmmakers laid out the story was near perfect. They began the movie with Willy traveling to a distant land to better his life. In the beginning he was singing about how many coins he had in his pocket. Throughout the song, his money got cut shorter and shorter because he was helping others in need and spending money on food. I’m pretty sure everyone liked Willy after the first scene he was in and felt bad for him because he was running out of money and had to sleep on the streets.

The musical aspect of the movie was great. The opening scene includes Wonka singing “A Hatful of Dreams.” This song was by far the most catchy of the movie. Wonka is on his way to a new land of promise, and he is talking about how hopeful he is for his future.

Overall, this movie was an 8/10. It took me a couple of days to process everything that happened in the movie because it is a lot to take in at first. Some things that I wish they had done differently was make it like the “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” movie. I wish they would have kind of skipped the backstory of Wonka and stuck with the factory and people getting into it with golden tickets. But that’s just what I would like to have seen. What they did in this movie was still fantastic as they covered the backstory of Wonka.
