For All the Dogs review

With the release of his 8th studio album, Drake makes his case as the greatest male artist of all time.

In the midst of his It’s All a Blur tour, Drake announced an album. That would fulfill the wishes of all his fans who want “the old Drake” back. 23 songs, 10 features, and 7 songs in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, this album also tied him with Michael Jackson for 13 No. 1 songs. First Person Shooter (ft. J.Cole) and Slime You Out (ft. SZA) both eclipsed as the No. 1 song at one point after the release of For All the Dogs.

Some of my personal favorites from this Album are Tried our Best and IDGAF (ft. YEAT). Tried our Best took me back to some songs from an older album, Take Care. The song is more R&B compared to IDGAF,, which is more of a rap song. Drake’s ability to switch it up with different genres of music is what I like most about his music. I get sick of the repetitive nature that comes with only rap music or only R&B from many artists.

This album was a perfect mixture of the two: rap songs with rapper features like, 21 Savage, and R&B songs with R&B artists like SZA.

A few songs I could not quite get behind were Gently (ft. Bad Bunny) and 7969 Santa. The reason for not liking Gently is simply because it is in Spanish the majority of the time. I understand including the song in the album to make the album appealing to Spanish fans. Bad Bunny also is one of the most popular musicians in the world. 7969 was one I expected to be good when it first started, but as it went on, It felt off. It was almost like the song had a rap beat with a more tranquil R&B type tone from Drake.

The album was similar to some of his older works, and I liked that a lot. It also featured some of my favorite artists, like 21 savage, J. Cole, Lil Yachty and Sza.
