Road House violent but good

This week I have not been able to walk around my school without hearing two words, Road House.

The new movie is a hit starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Daniela Melchior, and Conor McGregor. The movie starts out with an intense opening scene in an MMA fight. Jake Gyllenhaal, a former UFC fighter, is offered a bouncer job at The Road House, a bar in Florida’s Siesta Keys.

When Dalton arrives at the small island town, he is met with a warm welcome. When four guys start to destroy the bar, Dalton steps up and puts them all in the hospital. Following the opening scenes Dalton scares some of the gangsters away from the bar, until Billy Magnussen, Ben Brandt, a gang leader and Dalton fight for the Road House to stay on the island. They fight for the rest of the movie and do not stop until the end.

The picture, action, and violence in this movie is what makes it interesting. It takes a spotlight sport that interests me and then transitions that fighting into the character Dalton and Knox, Conor McGregor, who go at it the entire movie. The violence can go a little too far in some scenes, but for most of the part is just the right amount. The picture is really good, and just the overall ideas stole my attention when this movie started playing. It shows a Miami Vice type gang violence that kind of got me excited.

The characters fit the actors perfectly with Conor McGregor playing a crazy hitman. Jake Gyllenhaal is a fit and an ex-MMA fighter and definitely looks like one too. He is laid back and only fights back if fought first. Daniela Melchior plays Jake’s girlfriend and is perfect for coming in at the moment he needs it. Billy Magnussen is a perfect Dad’s money gang character; he plays his part fluently and looks like he was made to play this part. He is not in the movie too much but just enough to know that he is a bad man.

My overall take on the movie is it is not an amazing movie, but it is not bad. It is a good sit down and watch on a Tuesday night with my friends when I am bored. This movie is packed with action and violence, so if violence is not your thing this movie is not for you either.

Nothing really crazy stood out to me like some of my favorite movies do, nothing made me just jump out of my seat at how interesting it was. Road House is an average crime and hero movie, and I recommend watching it only to people who are interested in those kinds of things.
