Timbergate Golf Course Review

For every Issue, the Timberlines sports editors will review a golf course around Indiana.

For Issue 2, we traveled to Edinburg to play a course called Timbergate. Timbergate is approximately 30 minutes south of GHS.

Timbergate has been on our bucket list of courses to visit since the beginning of the summer. Our friend, junior Davis Arthur, member of the GHS Golf Team, said the course was one of his favorites and suggested we find time to give it a try.

Based on his high praise, we expected a fairly hefty fee. To our surprise, however, Timbergate has a pricing special where golfers 17 and under pay their age. $16 per person felt like a steal. The worker in the clubhouse was a younger guy who was very friendly. He cracked jokes with us and suggested what balls we should buy for the round.

The course was well-maintained and was unlike any course we have ever played. Quite frankly, the fairways were shorter than the greens at other courses. We also think that the time we went helped our overall experience. A Saturday tee time at 3 p.m. is a recipe for essentially a course to yourself. By no means are we good at golf, so it is more enjoyable when there are not other golfers watching every shot.

The scenery at this course was not up to the expectations I had but was not bad. A few holes bring the overall scenery down quite a bit. Some holes looked awesome, surrounded by trees, farmland and ponds. Other holes were honestly a little ugly. The course is situated in a neighborhood, which alone would not bring the scenery down, but there was a lot of construction in the neighborhood. What was the most visually unappealing was the fact that we could see Interstate 65 from certain holes.

Overall, this course was nice, and we enjoyed our time there a lot. The scenery was the only thing that was not on the high-end compared to nearby courses.
