The swim team will face off against local rivals in the County swim meet tonight.

The County swim meet is always one of the key meets of the year, with countless hours of practice and preparation going into it to make sure the team has what it needs to come out on top.

“This year the team has been way more dedicated to our practices. Everyone on the team consistently shows up and works hard. Some of the practices this year have been hard, but we’re good at motivating each other and pushing ourselves,” sophomore Maria Mears said.

The competition at County can be harder than normal meets, but the team is ready to prove themselves.

“I expect us to really show our competitors what we’re capable of at County. We can definitely place a solid third overall, but if we really train hard until then and emphasize what we need to work on before then, I believe we can score even higher,” junior Ethan Rose said.

With the teams in the meet being so close to Greenwood, it is easy to find a rival in a meet like County.

“One of our biggest rivals is Whiteland. Their scores are usually pretty close to ours, but I really think we can beat them this year. Center Grove and Franklin are also tough competitors, but getting as close to their scores is always a goal we have,” junior Ryann Marker said.

Rose agreed that Whiteland is the team to beat.

“The last few years we’ve swam at County, Whiteland has been able to put up a pretty good fight when it comes to races, and we always go toe-to-toe with them. This year if we perform as well as we have been, I think we can outperform them,” Rose said.

The County meet takes place at Center Grove beginning at 6:00.
